Frans van Noorden - Angel in prison

Frans van Noorden – An Angel in Prison II Beautifully executed original illustration in ink and watercolor on paper. A richly dressed knight on horseback meets a boy with a sack over his shoulder. The imposing castle, the half-timbered houses, and the horse blanket with golden lilies form a decorative, medieval scene. The warm ochre tones, the bright red, and the deep black have been preserved particularly well. The work has never been framed. Signed lower left. Features pencil notes 'An Angel in Prison II' and 'Morning Red X', presumably referring to the eponymous series of reading books for which Van Noorden provided illustrations.
