Frans van Noorden - Children's book illustration

Frans van Noorden – Man with Candle and Sickle Expressive original illustration in ink and watercolor on paper. A mysterious man with a red neckerchief creeps past a ladder and wooden barrels with a burning candle and a sickle. His posture and penetrating facial expression lend tension and character to the scene. The golden-yellow candlelight is particularly beautiful, casting a warm glow over the room. Deep shadows and subtle light accents on the dark clothing create a powerful contrast. The colors have been beautifully preserved. Signed lower right. The grey backing board bears the inscription 'M IX Nº 2', presumably referring to the Morgenrood reading book series.
