Georges Saulterre, of Italian descent (Venice), received his training in Paris. He developed into a versatile artist, working as a sculptor, draftsman, and designer.
His oeuvre includes both figurative and abstract works. Human figures, female characters, animals, fantasy creatures, and organic forms recur in particular.
He gained his greatest fame with monumental sculptures in public spaces, including "Les flêches des cathedrales", a monumental metal sculpture 21 meters high (erected in 1989 along the A10, Forges-les-Bains. Listed in the Guinness Book of Records in 1998 as the tallest man-made sculpture).
He also collaborated with the French crystal manufacturer Daum from 2015. Together, they developed the Panoptès and Argos series in crystal pâte.
He was also invited to exhibit in China, where his success was so great that he opened his own gallery, "Espace Saulterre," in Shanghai.
Georges Sautterre died in 2024 in Rambouillet (France)
