Boosten, Gèr 1947-06-10 (Maastricht). Graphic artist, illustrator, painter, draftsman. Education: City Academy of Applied Arts Maastricht (1964-1965), Jan van Eyck Academy Maastricht (1966-1971). Worked in: Yugoslavia (1970-1971), Maastricht (1980-1991). Awards: City of Maastricht Award (1971), Royal Subsidy (1971). Ger Boosten (10-06-1947, Maastricht) grew up in his father's studio on the Maastricht Market Square. ‘The first thing I heard as a child was the shouting and screaming on the market. Character-wise, I am therefore linked to the dramatic.’ Another important part of his life as a child was Carnival. ‘All the important painters and sculptors worked together on the Carnival parade from November to February,’ as did his father. The market and the carnival captivated him with the theater. Boosten is a perfectionist who works on a canvas for years. ‘Through all the blows I have received, I have learned to express myself.’ He had to endure those blows throughout his entire youth, due to his father's communist views.
