Gerrit de Morée (28 January 1909 – 13 October 1981) was a versatile Dutch visual artist who played a fundamental role in the development of Breda's cultural climate. He mastered numerous disciplines, ranging from painting and drawing to monumental art forms such as stained glass, mosaics, and sgraffito.
Gerrit de Morée was born in 's-Hertogenbosch. He showed artistic talent early on and attended art schools in Tilburg, Den Bosch, and Paris. In 1924, his active career as an artist began, which would ultimately span nearly sixty years.

In the 1930s, De Morée settled in Breda, where he soon became a pivotal figure in the local art world.

During the Second World War, De Morée earned a living by creating thousands of book illustrations and magazine drawings. He also made murals in public buildings, such as the Ignatius Hospital in Breda. When the German occupiers commissioned him to create a mural for them, he steadfastly refused, using the creative excuse that he lacked "inspiration."

Gerrit de Morée passed away at the age of 72 in his beloved Breda. Although his work sometimes remained underexposed at the time, his legacy is highly valued today as an indispensable part of Brabant art history.
