Gerrit Koppenol - Evening red over the heath

Sunset over the Heide – Gerrit Koppenol (1878–1963)

An atmospheric and warmly painted landscape by the Dutch artist Gerrit Koppenol, in which the tranquility of nature and the special light of the evening come together beautifully. On the canvas, we see a shepherd with his flock of sheep slowly moving through the rolling heathland, while the setting sun colors the sky in soft shades of red, ochre, and blue. The interplay of light and shadow gives the painting an almost poetic appearance and makes it a true eye-catcher in any interior. Gerrit Koppenol was known for his romantic and realistic landscapes, often inspired by the Dutch countryside. His work is characterized by a strong attention to atmosphere, lighting, and composition, causing his paintings to radiate a timeless tranquility.

The painting is set in a stylish, classic frame that beautifully enhances the warm color palette and gives the whole an elegant appearance. The frame is perfectly suited to the period and increases the decorative value of the work.

The work was professionally restored in the past; this is visible in the last two photos. Furthermore, on the back there is an original sticker from Kunsthandel Modern JHB van Hout, located at Schiedamseweg 121a in Rotterdam, which adds an extra piece of provenance and history.

Given its age of 100 years, the painting is in authentic condition with light signs of use appropriate for its age, which only enhance the character and charm of the work. In short, a special and atmospheric work for lovers of classic Dutch painting and rustic landscapes.
