Van Driel groeide op in Zaandam. Hij studeerde geschiedenis, en ontwikkelde zichzelf tot illustrator en striptekenaar. De meeste van zijn boeken worden in Nederland uitgegeven door uitgeverij Oog & Blik.
In 2000 debuteerde hij als filmmaker met de documentaire U spreekt met Frank Laufer over de Amsterdamse wereldverbeteraar Frank Laufer, en in 2006 maakte hij een film van een uur voor de VPRO, Groen is toch de mooiste kleur voor gras. Voor de voorgevel van het nieuwe gemeentehuis van Dongeradeel te Dokkum schilderde Van Driel 26 tegeltableaus. Zijn 2013 film De wederopstanding van een klootzak is de openingsfilm voor het International Film Festival Rotterdam.[1] (bron Wikipedia)
