Harry Buyck - mother and child

Harry Buyck was a Belgian artist born in 1928 in Antwerp and who died in Merksem in 2017. He was a painter and draftsman. Largely self-taught, but did take lessons at the Academy in Ghent under W. Sybrands. Finds his inspiration in the fellow man he encounters at home, on the beach or in the café and also paints landscapes, beach views, nudes, mother and child compositions. Expressionist design. From the press: "HB mainly looks for the atmosphere of his subjects, although he steers clear of the usual themes, but he prefers compositions with figures from everyday life" and "HB's paintings continue the atmosphere of the delightful intimacy of the people's life." Jozef Muls Prize, Guillaume Campo Prize, first prize Noorderkempen and first prize of La Palette Martegale in France. Led the artists' café Den Draak in Ghent (1956-1959), was the basis for the organization of a large number of artistic events in Flanders and supported a whole series of debuting or already established artists.
