Harry Kosters (1943)
Old Side Voorburgwal, Amsterdam
Oil on canvas, ca. 1970
50 × 60 cm
Signed lower right
With original gallery label from Galerie Pieter Breughel, Amsterdam
This early work by Harry Kosters depicts a tranquil winter view of the Oudezijds Voorburgwal in Amsterdam. Painted around 1970, it belongs to his early and most authentic period, in which atmosphere and urban architecture play a significant role.
The subdued color scheme, subtle lighting, and refined brushwork give the work a timeless quality. The painting was originally purchased at Galerie Pieter Breughel in Amsterdam, and the original gallery label is still present on the back.
A characteristic example of an early Dutch figurative cityscape from the second half of the 20th century.
