Characteristic, industrial work by Herman Heijenbrock. Drawing in pastel on paper, signed in pencil in the lower right corner. In a very sturdy wooden frame, behind glass; titled and signed “H. Heijenbrock, Blaricum” in ink by Heijenbrock himself on the cardboard backing of the frame. In very good condition.
A subject that touches me personally; a school poster was once published featuring this image, elaborated slightly further by Heijenbrock, titled “Peat Extraction in Emmen-Compascum” (see photo). My mother, who has since passed away, was born in Emmer-Compascuum just before the war, and her father, my grandfather, would sometimes talk about his younger years as a peat worker. Perhaps he was one of the workers in the image. Working incredibly hard, yet living in abject poverty in this peat colony. But please, tell me again about my colonial legacy and my white guilt.
Dimensions: 71cm x 52cm (incl. frame), 60cm x 41cm (drawing inside frame)
This item is strongly preferred to be picked up. Shipping by courier is possible and can be arranged by the buyer themselves with a courier of their choice (for example, with Swift Koeriers or Easy2send via the Kunstveiling website).

After purchase, an artwork can always be collected, but by appointment, in Diemen (near Amsterdam, a few minutes from the A10 ring road). The collection period is very generous; you can optionally collect the work weeks or even months later and, if possible, combine it with a visit to (the area around) Amsterdam for other matters. In that case, you will, of course, save on shipping costs. The only exception to the above is that if the seller at any time decides to ship the work free of charge, this is binding, i.e., the work cannot be collected in that case. This will only happen in exceptional cases and the buyer will not bear any financial risk.
