GARDEN
An exuberant still life full of symbolism, painted on a warm, gold-colored background. On a bulbous, partially transparent vase, three stylistically simplified flowers sprout, each on its own stem and with its own form: a pink star-of-leaf, a yellow, spear-like bud, and a red-blue flower with a fan of green leaves. A red loop, painted like a knot, ties the central plane together. At the bottom, the whole rests on a bone-shaped motif, enclosed by rosettes in deep aubergine and blue tones. The black contours and the flat, intensely colored areas give the work the immediacy of folk art and the playful power of Art Brut. At the same time, the composition seems to be brimming with hidden meaning: life and transience, blossom and bud, bonding and growth. The gold paper lends the canvas an almost iconic glow and makes the colors light up. A personal, richly layered work that will appeal to collectors of naive and spontaneous art as well as lovers of modern color expression.

Herman van den Boom is a Dutch/Belgian artist who works with photography and collage. His work explores the boundaries between observation and imagination and often combines documentary precision with playful abstraction. Van den Boom's photographs and collages have been exhibited internationally and are held in major collections such as the Rijksmuseum, Kunstmuseum Den Haag, and Stedelijk Museum Amsterdam.
