This painter, born in Friesland (Leeuwarden), was self-taught. He soon moved to Scheveningen where he lived and worked. He was a striking appearance there with his hat and clogs. According to his granddaughter Mrs. Dobben Ros he painted many forest scenes, flocks of sheep, still lifes and marines, often in a large format. He later moved to Rotterdam where he died in 1964.
