Ingrid Simons - SEMITA V (TRIPTYCH)

Ingrid Simons creates expressive landscapes using thickly applied paint. In her work, she conveys an atmosphere of stillness, but also of uncanny and decay. For a long time, she used dark tones. Influenced by her stay in Portugal, more color and light have entered her work in recent years. The landscapes she paints mostly consist of forest and water. She has often added paths to them. 'To entice people to step into the landscape.' However, the paths dissolve into the distance. Symbolic of the path of life, the destination of which you also do not know. She often depicts a landscape at night. To do this, she takes nocturnal walks. The night, in particular, lends itself to expressing an ominous atmosphere. The moonlight creates moments of tension. A duality of light and dark emerges. She draws inspiration for her landscapes close to home, but for the past few years, also from Portugal.
