Powerful, colorful oil painting by the Zandvoort artist Jaap Bouhuys (1902–1983)
The versatile artist Bouhuys – sculptor, painter, monumental artist – received his training at the Arnhem Art Academy and the Amsterdam Rijksacademie.
From ca. onwards, he collaborated extensively with Nel Klaassen, his future wife. This collaboration resulted in many works, particularly monumental ones.
Bouhuys collaborated with Picasso and met Braque. The Cubism of these artists had a visible influence on his work, but through his approach—color and composition—it nevertheless retained its own character...
The work offered here was created in the mid-seventies.
