Painter and draftsman Jaap Luteyn was born in 1944 in Zeeland, the Netherlands. He began creating art at a young age. His works can be categorized as Magical, Fantastic, and Surrealist painting and drawing. He trained at the Graphic School in Utrecht in the 1960s. In 1977, he was admitted as a working member of the Genootschap Kunstliefde (Art Love Society) in Utrecht, a great recognition for him. Luteyn belongs to the Utrecht school. He tries to paint or draw as little civilization as possible in his work (therefore, people are nude). In some works, he deviates from this, such as gold rings, a vase, or fantasy objects that nevertheless bear the characteristics of being man-made. It is his fantasy, beautiful or not.
He had ca. 20 exhibitions in the Netherlands at museums and galleries. Website: www. jaapluteyn.exto.nl and YouTube : A video about the creation of his work from 1960 to 2022. Link: https://youtu.be/74KU2uXF3_M Jaap Luteyn attaches great importance to explaining the working methods and techniques, there have been quite a few misunderstandings about this. In his drawings there is always a white border around his work, which is created by masking off the frame before he makes it. Then he removes the tape and thus gets a nice, tight frame, then it looks a bit like a reproduction, it is always one unique piece, so not a lithograph, etching, silkscreen or reproduction. In some of his works parts were created by a monotype (a glass print that was subsequently used.)
