  • Jacobus Bijtel (1893-1983) lived and worked in Rotterdam, The Hague, and later in Ede.
He was taught at the Academy of Fine Arts in Rotterdam and the Free Academy in The Hague. Painted, watercolored and drew still lifes, landscapes and portraits. His style developed from late Hague school via expressionism to abstract.
He was a member of the association of Ede painters.

Jacobus Bijtel was a painter who preferred to stay out of the limelight.
He thus worked for decades on a 'hidden collection' that only became visible after his death.
In the eyes of art critics, Bijtel can compete with renowned artists from the late Hague and Leidsche Schools.
