20th-century hunting still life by the famous Belgian artist Jacques Maes.
This oil painting depicts a classic, rich composition with a central pheasant surrounded by a bottle of red wine, shallots, and a woven fruit basket with apples. Maes employs a realistic style here with a warm, harmonious color scheme that fits perfectly into a country, classic, or eclectic interior. The work bears witness to the rich tradition of Flemish and Belgian still-life painting.
The painting is in excellent condition and is signed by the artist ("JMaes") in the lower right corner. It is framed in a high-quality, handmade gold-colored gallery frame by Schleiper & Fils, a renowned framing and art dealership originally from Brussels founded in the 19th century, which lends the work extra cachet.
