Beautiful, quintessentially Dutch landscape with clouds and water, depicting the Loosdrecht Lakes in the Green Heart. The painting is in good condition and is professionally framed. Labeled on the back with, among others, a label from the Dutch Travel Association and the Association of Visual Artists in Hilversum. The purchase price at the time was 225.00 guilders.
Jan Holtrup moved to Hilversum with his family at a young age, worked in his parents' shop after high school, and decided to become a painter when he was 26. He was taught by the landscape painter JFC Scherrewitz, whose work was strongly influenced by the Hague School. Holtrup had a great preference for the landscapes of the Veluwe, 't Gooi, and Brabant. He painted in a romantic and impressionistic style.
