About the artist
Jan Jippe van Herrikhuijzen (1946) is a Dutch painter from Almere. He studied graphic design, trained as an art teacher, and took masterclasses at Talens. His work ranges from (sur)realistic and illustrative to graphic and abstract. The searching human being is often central to his paintings, which take the viewer on an inner journey beyond the hustle and bustle of everyday life. In 2023, he had a solo exhibition of about forty works at Casa Casla in Almere, under the title "A Shining of Light".
About the triptych
A broad band of golden-yellow light runs across the three canvases. Above this sit soft planes of pink, salmon, green, and lilac; below is a deep blue zone of angular, mosaic-like forms with occasional red accents. A single red line snakes through this yellow from left to right, resembling a heartbeat or a lifeline. On the right panel, this line ends at a blue silhouette of a figure with a raised arm, seemingly holding the thread. It can be interpreted as a story about the journey a person takes, from the unrest in the blue to the light.
