Taken from the famous emblem book "The Unworthy World" (first edition of 1710), three original copper engravings with poems in a single frame.

"This is the Remains" The engraving depicts a human skeleton resting on a grave or shroud. It is a raw, detailed representation of death that emphasizes the transience of the earthly body.
"The Unfaithful Friend" The print usually depicts an encounter between two figures in which one person deceives or abandons the other at a critical moment. With this, Luyken visualizes the contrast between outward appearances (friendship) and inner deceit (betrayal).
"The Disorderly Household" You see a rich interior or a beautiful country estate where people are busy preparing luxurious dishes and lavish food. However, instead of this food nourishing the people, it is thrown directly into the pigsty.

Jan Luyken (1649–1712) was an Amsterdam master etcher and poet. He became famous for his fabulously detailed copper engravings in which he connected daily life to Christian morality and spirituality.
