Artist Info: Jef Louis Van Leemputten
Jef Louis Van Leemputten, or Joseph Louis Van Leemputten, was a Belgian painter and the son of Jean-Baptiste Van Leemputten. He trained under C. Verlat. He participated in the preliminary competition for the Prix de Rome in 1886 and 1889. He had a preference for historical war scenes, among others, but also painted scenes with animals.

He worked in Antwerp for some time. He exhibited, among others, at the “Exhibition” organized by the Royal Society for the Encouragement of Fine Arts in Antwerp in 1898. From the press: “This master is primarily known for his works in which animals, and mainly chickens and sheep, constitute the main theme, so that many of his canvases show us a shepherdess, a shepherd, or a farmyard.”

Internationally renowned painter.
