This is a watercolor by Joost van Rooijen (1928-2012). In the original frame.

He created watercolors using a technique entirely his own. Sometimes a painting was not finished until several years later, as was the case with this painting. Joost received early recognition and exhibited in the 1960s at, among others, the Zonnehof (with Carel Visser), the Gemeentemuseum in The Hague (now the Kunstmuseum Den Haag), the Stedelijk Museum in Amsterdam, and the Van Abbemuseum in Eindhoven. Together with Aldo van Eyck, he won the prestigious Sikkens Prize in 1961 for his mural on the playground at the Zeedijk in Amsterdam. Later, in 1993, he had major exhibitions at the Museum Boymans-van Beuningen in Rotterdam, and again at the Gemeentemuseum in The Hague, the Stedelijk Museum in Amsterdam, and in 2011 at the Van Abbemuseum in Eindhoven. He also collaborated with architects as a designer and executor of monumental art projects in large buildings and public spaces. From 1958 to 1995, he completed approximately 60 major projects, including those in the auditorium of the Technical University and the Ministry of Transport laboratory in Delft (both van den Broek and Bakema), the Kantonaalhof in Amsterdam (Ben Loerakker), the Dutch Embassy in Jakarta (Norbert Gawronski), Muziekcentrum Vredenburg (Concert Hall) in Utrecht, and the Ministry of Social Affairs in The Hague (both Herman Herzberger).
