Klaas Gubbels (Rotterdam, 1934) is one of the most important contemporary Dutch artists. Gubbels creates paintings and drawings, as well as spatial and graphic works. He uses various techniques and materials, such as lithography, woodcut, mural painting, collage, found objects, glass, and metal. Klaas Gubbels captures his subjects in their purest form: there is beauty in simplicity. Works by Klaas Gubbels are included in many collections, including the Stedelijk Museum Amsterdam and Museum Boijmans van Beuningen. Iconic works in Rotterdam include 'The croquettes in the restaurant are on the small side' with CB Vaandrager at Hotel New York and 'A swan in the distance' on the Provenierssingel. Gubbels was associated with the Academy of Fine Arts in 'his' Rotterdam as a lecturer for many years.
