Vintage earthenware bowl marked Regina - René WB Gouda Holland
Beautiful cobalt blue decorated with floral decor and gold edges
Made in 1938 by the Regina pottery factory, hand-painted by René, and fully marked on the bottom.
Length: 18.5 cm
Width: 11.5 cm
Height: 4 cm - with handle: 10.5 cm
Regina was an art pottery factory in the Dutch city of Gouda, founded in 1898.
The factory was founded in the coronation year of Queen Wilhelmina, 1898, hence the name Regina.
The factory was founded by Gerrit Frederik van der Want, a descendant of the Van der Want pottery family from Gouda, and Georges Antoine Alexis Barras, a Belgian financier and art collector.
Their initials WB therefore appear on almost all products.
Regina was able to start the production of art pottery in 1917 because the company was able to purchase a number of (earthenware) molds from the bankrupt Rozenburg earthenware factory in The Hague, which produced high-quality earthenware in the period from 1883 to 1917.
The pottery factory was closed in 1979.
