Lia van Leeuwen - Color etching, no. 9815

During her studies at the Academy of Fine Arts, Lia van Leeuwen chose etching as her specialization. Over time, she has developed a completely unique working method within this field. From the engraving of simple lines, a personal visual language emerged featuring figures and objects. The tulip, a symbol of our own culture, can frequently be found in her work. In addition to etching, Lia van Leeuwen has focused on painting panels. The panels are created in the same way as her graphic work. The drawing is incised onto the plate with an etching needle and then worked on with oil paint, brushes, rollers, and stencils. “Making a painting is like taking a journey. I let myself be carried along, inspired by the colors, lines, shapes, rhythm, and counter-rhythm. A sense of freedom, enthusiasm, involvement, warmth, chaos, and order. There is an ever-present movement. It is a never-ending story, and I am always curious about the next step.”
