The painter Lois Kapr was born in 1922, the son of a Prague artist who emigrated to the Netherlands in that same year. His father was a graphic artist and painter. At the age of 12, he began taking lessons from the painter Hendrik Adriaan van der Wal (1882-1963), who painted large cityscapes in an impressionist style. Lois Kapr also studied with Paul van der Ven (1892-1972) – landscapes and cityscapes – and with the fine painter Hendrikus IJkelenstam (1897-1993). Kapr prefers to create paintings with scenes in subdued winter attire.
