Lourens Lubbers (1938-2014) was a versatile Groningen painter and textile artist, known for his often abstract and surreal compositions. His versatility is reflected in his oil and acrylic paintings and his colored pencil and pastel drawings. Lubbers studied art at the Minerva Academy in Groningen from 1955 to 1960 and was a member of the artists' association De Ploeg.
Lourens Lubbers's work is characterized by its high productivity and the diversity of techniques and materials he uses—paint, India ink, textiles, and pastels. Despite all this variety, this hard-working and dedicated artist's heart lies in "forms" that are integrated into the larger whole of a vibrant composition. These forms are never static, but find their way through space.
