A magnificent and completely authentic unique ceramic lidded pot by the renowned Dutch ceramist Lucie Q. Bakker (1915-2003).
This unique studio piece dates from 1982 and is a beautiful example of her later, monumental independent work.
The pot has a characteristic modernist chalice shape that rests on a sturdy, tapering base.
The glaze has been masterfully applied: a blend of atmospheric green tones with light brown, mottled, and speckled textures. This gives the surface an organic, almost mineral appearance. The interior is smoothly glazed along with the rest.
About the artist:
Lucie Quirina Bakker (trained under Bert Nienhuis at the School of Applied Arts in Amsterdam) is one of the most important post-war Dutch potters. In addition to her well-known serial services (such as the 'Lucie' and 'Quirina' lines), she remained passionately creating unique studio ceramics (one-of-a-kind pieces) throughout her life. After moving her studio to a farmhouse in Haarlo in 1968, she once again focused entirely on this free, hand-thrown work. This specific object is a rare and tangible result of that.
The object is fully hand-signed and dated on the underside of the base with her characteristic signature: "LQB '82". The lidded pot is in excellent, undamaged condition. A beautiful collector's item for lovers of Dutch design and high-quality studio ceramics.
