Maartje Wijngaarden - Screen print, blue flower

MAARTJE WIJNGAARDEN, (1947 't Zand) Painter and screen printer. Maartje Wijngaarden is a late bloomer in the arts. It was not until after the age of 35 that she developed into a professional visual artist. Initially, she painted fairly traditional landscapes and still lifes in a Neo-Impressionist style. Gradually, she developed her own distinctive style, with her vision of nature and her concern for humans and animals as the main theme. Animals are almost always depicted in her recent works. Sometimes she also paints scenes about the relationship between humans and animals. Her forms are always abstracted and often feature heavy contours. The most striking feature is the bold and often vibrant use of color. Maartje Wijngaarden is listed in the register of the Netherlands Institute for Art History (RKD): https://rkd.nl/explore/artists/128189.
