Very colorful work by Margot Junge. Perfect screen print in a perfect frame.
Margit Junge, born in Amsterdam in 1962, is self-taught. She began painting at the age of 37. Before that, she worked as an occupational therapist with psychiatric and mentally disabled patients, was a secretary, and ran a computer business with her partner for ten years. Dissatisfaction set in, as did the monotony. In 1999, she decided to take a course at Artibus in Utrecht. It was a revelation, and since then, she has worked on her paintings every day. After the sale of a number of works, she became even more motivated by this confirmation, and a turning point occurred in her life. She is now determined and has stopped her other work to dedicate herself entirely to painting. She does this at her farm, the Oude Kerswerf, on the Lek River in the Betuwe village of Beusichem. By manufacturing her own canvases, Junge creates large works in unusual formats. When she stands before a new canvas, she has no fixed idea in her head. Her color choices are bold and direct, inspired by her travels to the Far and Middle East and the Caribbean. Junge paints abstractly, wildly, impulsively, and colorfully. The oil and acrylic paints are applied richly to the canvas. She does not sketch beforehand, but every action is a consequence of the previous one. Additionally, she enjoys painting realistic brown women with jet-black eyes, full mouths, and the accompanying voluptuous, plump bodies. The master of color, Matisse, inspires her with his settings, as does Karel Appel, who applies his colors so richly and brightly to the canvas. Gauguin inspires her with his dark female figures, partly due to her Indonesian heritage and his beautifully chosen color schemes.
