About Marian:

From a young age, Marian van der Sanden occupied herself with drawing and painting. For as long as she can remember, it has played an important role in her life.

Initially, Marian began by copying paintings by Rembrandt and his contemporaries. She was particularly drawn to the play of light. Gradually, many other subjects came into play, such as portraits, landscapes, and animals.
She works with oil paint on masonite or linen. She collects her subjects, which are usually old everyday objects. The play of light remains an important element in her paintings. The choice of subject, the right composition, the use of color, the utilization of space on the canvas, and the correct lighting are consistently decisive for an atmospheric painting.
In addition to painting still lifes, Marian is currently also working on painting animal portraits and portraits. In these, she works freely, with a much looser brushstroke. The variety keeps it interesting for her. Six years ago, she visited an exhibition by Henk Helmantel in Amsterdam. His still lifes particularly appealed to her, after which she went looking for someone who could teach her the old craft. That is how she ended up with Peter Dillen, a craftsman who also understands the art of teaching well.
Marian learned the tricks of the trade from him.
