This painting was donated to our association supporting the memorial site of the former Langenstein-Zwieberge concentration camp near Halberstadt by the German Matt Lamb Society with the wish to sell it to the highest bidder.
The proceeds will go into the donation fund of our support association to support educational student projects and meetings with relatives of former prisoners from all over Europe, Australia, Israel, and the USA.
In Langenstein-Zwieberge, over 7,000 prisoners from 23 countries were incarcerated between April 1944 and April 1945. During that year, they were forced to work under inhumane conditions, hewing a 13-kilometer-long tunnel into the Thekenberge hills. Aircraft parts were to be produced there for the Junkers aircraft factory.
Around 2000 prisoners died due to the inhumane working conditions, thousands more on the "death march" in early April 1945.
The camp was discovered and liberated on April 12, 1945, by soldiers of the 8th US Army.
