Description:
Offered for sale: a beautiful and rare art-historical ensemble by the renowned figurative sculptor Michiel J. van der Sommen. This object combines a high-quality bronze sculpture with its direct, documented provenance.
The Bronze Statue:
It concerns an elegant and highly dynamically designed bronze sculpture of a dancer in full motion. Van der Sommen is known for masterfully capturing the muscle tension and grace of the human body. The undulating foot serves as an abstract representation of the movement.
• Artist: Michiel J. van der Sommen
• Year: 1992 (designed following his work period in Pietrasanta, Italy)
• Material: Bronze (with official foundry stamp)
• Signature: Fully signed on the base (M vd Sommen)
• Edition: Limited edition, number 20 of only 50 worldwide (20/50)
The Sabbatical Report (1989-1990):
Included in this sale is the extremely rare Sabbatical Report 1989–1990, published by Chatham Hall (Virginia, USA), where Van der Sommen was head of the art department at the time. This report documents his one-year sabbatical at the famous Italian bronze and marble center of Pietrasanta. The booklet was printed at the time in a very limited, private edition for close friends and the art committee. It serves as the ultimate certificate of authenticity and offers a unique glimpse into the creative process behind this type of sculpture.
• Booklet condition: In completely undamaged condition (tight spine, clean pages, no discoloration).
This ensemble is a unique opportunity for collectors of high-quality figurative bronze art.
