Jhr. Mr. BC de Jonge (1875-1958) was Governor-General of the Dutch East Indies from 1931 to 1936. The sitter was 62 years old when he posed for Wenckebach. It is a typical Wenckebach: a head held high with an elegant moustache, supported by a broad collar. Strict naturalism on a very small scale with great attention to expressive detail is clearly visible in the decorations on the gala uniform. Wenckebach loved decorative elements and, in particular, traditional coats of arms. He resumes his approach for the Beelaert Medal, issued by the Association in 1954.
