Notes: From the album “Carnet de dessins de Picasso: reproduits au format de l'original”, 1948; published by Éditions Cahiers d'Art, Paris, and Christian Zervos, Paris; printed by Éditions Cahiers d'Art, Paris, 1948. Quoted by the publisher, Éditions Cahiers d'Art. Limited edition of 1,000 copies. Full-page illustrations. Also known as the “Carnets de Royan”. This series reproduces works created in Royan between May 30, 1940, and August 22, 1940. The album concludes with studies made in Paris on February 19, 1942 – Picasso fled Paris in September 1939 for fear of bombing raids and settled in Royan. From the beginning of 1940, he rented a studio on the third floor of the Villa "Les Voiliers," overlooking the harbor. This notebook belongs to this creative period. Picasso returned to Paris for good in August 1940, as Royan was closed to foreigners.
