Paul Daxhelet (Liège, 1905 - 1993)
Paul Daxhelet was a Belgian painter and graphic artist. Daxhelet was a student of François Maréchal, Jean Ochs, and Emile Berchmans at the Academy in Liège. At the Académie Julian in Paris, he perfected his skills under Reneffer Paul and Herman Paul. He later became a professor at the Academy of Liège himself. Daxhelet undertook many travels worldwide, including to the Belgian Congo (from 1951), India, South America, Polynesia, and Senegal. His picturesque travel paintings, drawings, and watercolors are colorful. Daxhelet employed a fluid figurative style that, however, stood apart from mainstream Expressionism.
