Paul Nassenstein's oeuvre spans the spectrum from minuscule postcard-sized drawings to monumental paintings measuring up to 2 by 3 meters. In his work, he creates theatrical and surreal scenes in which small human or animal figures move through colossal, alienating spaces. Despite the often fatalistic and bizarre situations, all of this is processed with a sense of perspective, infused with a touch of irony and humor. Nassenstein trained at the Gerrit Rietveld Academy, where he graduated in 1993. He has been awarded prestigious prizes such as the Royal Prize for Painting, the Prix de Rome for Drawing, and the Van Ommeren-De Voogt Prize from Pulchri Studio (2018). Furthermore, his work is included in major museum collections, including Museum Boijmans Van Beuningen, the Stedelijk Museum Amsterdam, the Kunstmuseum Den Haag, and the Centraal Museum Utrecht, as well as in various private and corporate collections.
