More information about the artist: Peter Bes, born in 1945 in Den Helder and has lived and worked for a long time in Anna Paulowna, located in the north of North Holland. In the 1960s, Bes first followed a course at the then National Normal School and later at the National Academy in Amsterdam. He regularly exhibited both at home and abroad and participated in graphic biennials and triennials in Switzerland (Grenchen, 1979 and 1982), Poland (Krakau, 1978), Bulgaria (Varna, 1985), Germany (Dortmund, 1993) and the United States (San Francisco, 1980). In 1980 he received the first prize for portraiture in Tuzla, in the former Yugoslavia. An intriguing play of light and dark can be observed in the oeuvre of Peter Bes, which leaves a 'cinematic' impression. He himself says: 'What happens in films in a series of images, I have to catch in one moment. I opt for a staging, for the set, in which I place the figures. I often combine different worlds or bring together characters from different times.'
