Peter Donkersloot was born in Arnhem in 1959. He grew up in the forests of the Veluwe but also spent a significant part of his youth in the Betuwe. This later proved to have a major influence on his work, particularly on his 'Dutch Landscape Paintings', with their many bodies of water containing characteristic reflections of the sky. After attending the Arnhem Art Academy in the late 1970s, he first worked for several years as a commercial artist and illustrator at, among others, the renowned advertising agency FHV-BBDO. This start was to be expected, as his father, Piet Donkersloot, was also a well-known illustrator. In the mid-1980s, when Peter was twenty-six, something began to feel wrong: he could no longer combine commercial art with his true great love, namely fine art painting. When his father passed away in 1986, he decided to take a gamble; one must try to realize one's dreams as much as possible. Peter Donkersloot paints at a rapid pace and can be found in his studio day and (especially) at night. With his highly distinctive works, the artist has by now managed to appeal to a large following of enthusiasts. Consequently, exhibitions are invariably sold out, and the artist is exhibiting increasingly abroad.
If you'd like to view the artworks we offer before the auction ends, you're welcome to visit our shop in Purmerend. Please send us a message or email in advance to schedule an appointment. After the auction, you can choose from various shipping (PostNL), delivery (Swift or our own courier), and/or pickup options (depending on the size and fragility of the item). We'll pack carefully and use sufficient material (bubble wrap/MDF boards) to minimize any damage. For multiple purchases, we'll combine shipping whenever possible to keep costs low. Pickup is possible anytime up to one month after purchase! If you need more time, that's always negotiable. Our artworks are often loose-leaf or in the wrong frame – a professional mat or new frame can truly complete your purchase. For sound advice, a wide selection, and an excellent price-quality ratio, we've been working with the framers at Frame4U for some time now. You can have Frame4U handle the framing and mat installation yourself, or we can take care of it for you. The cost doesn't matter; the choice is yours.
