Captain Rob is the hero of the comic strip "The Adventures of Captain Rob," drawn and conceived by Pieter Kuhn (1910-1966) with text by journalist Evert Werkman (1915-1988), which appeared in 73 stories in the Parool papers from December 11, 1945, to January 21, 1966 (interrupted by two longer periods). On December 11, 1945, Captain Rob sets sail with his sailing ship De Vrijheid together with his dog Skip for his first adventure, but the story still has the character of an experiment. Kuhn is an excellent draftsman but lacks the gift of words and is therefore assigned a copywriter by Het Parool to give shape to his ideas. From the second story onwards, this is Evert Werkman, and the stories become more coherent. The Adventures of Captain Rob become a success, and the booklets of the newspaper strips that appeared in Het Parool until 1961 sell very well. It was not until 1966 that the newspaper adventures came to an end when Kuhn passed away suddenly. What is now offered is a beautiful screen print, which appeared in a strictly limited and numbered edition in the 1980s. For the comic strip enthusiast, nostalgia fan, or simply as a fine piece of art on the wall.
