In het werk van Rob Scholte staat hergebruik van bestaande afbeeldingen centraal. Het werk Lucifer in Paradise bestaat uit acht (computergeprinte) doekjes met acht verschillende reproducties van collages van luciferdoosjes uit de twintigste eeuw (waarvan hier een te koop). Luciferdoosjes zijn lange tijd geliefde verzamelobjecten geweest en werden geproduceerd in series, waarbij de doosjes voorzien werden van afbeeldingen van televisie- of popsterren, vogels of bezienswaardigheden uit de hele wereld, of logo’s van sigarettenmerken of hotels.
Wegens het afwijzen van modernistische waarden als originaliteit, authenticiteit en uniciteit wordt het werk van Scholte gerekend tot het postmodernisme.
