BIO
The work of painter, draftsman, and sculptor Rudi Pillen was world-famous. His oeuvre spans a period of 50 years. His work evolved from expressionism to abstraction.
People were central to his work. Rudi Pillen had a heart for Africa and therefore decided to stay in Congo. His stay in Africa had a major impact on his work. This is evident, for example, in his use of color. His most famous work can be seen in the Thailand Cultural Centre metro station in Bangkok: an enormous canvas measuring 2 by 10 meters, unveiled by Princess Astrid and Prince Lorenz of Belgium. Works by Rudi Pillen have been exhibited in major galleries in San Francisco, New York, Chicago, Paris, Kinshasa, and Johannesburg, among others. In March 2016, there was also an exhibition dedicated to Rudi Pillen in New Delhi.
