Offered for sale: a beautiful, atmospheric expressionist painting by the renowned Groningen artist Siem de Vries. This work from 1979 is executed in oil paint / mixed media on hardboard and is in good condition, complete with the original black wooden frame. Although De Vries, as a self-taught artist, charted his own autonomous course, the stylistic kinship with the famous Groningen art circle De Ploeg is clearly evident. With warm and bold use of color, heavy cloisonné contours, and powerfully stylized forms, he impressively brings the Northern Dutch countryside to life. Artist: Siem de Vries (1920-2004) Year: 1979 (prominently hand-signed and dated lower right) Technique: Oil paint / mixed media on hardboard Style: Groningen Expressionism (in the tradition of De Ploeg) Support & frame: Painted on sturdy hardboard, fitted with a simple black frame.
