TEUN NIJKAMP (1943-2018)

Born in 1943 in Hardenberg, Overijssel, he spent part of his youth in Malang, Indonesia. But it was in Amsterdam that he developed as an artist. In 1993, love brought him to Kats on North Beveland. And although the love was short-lived, he remained in that artists' village for the rest of his life.

In the journal Zeeland, published by the Royal Zeeland Society of Sciences, Gerard van der Wal, a board member of the Heemkundige Kring De Bevelanden, writes a book review.
Teunn exhibited in well-known galleries in Amsterdam, The Hague, and New York, among others. He created book covers for famous writers such as Hella S. Haasse, Max Dendermonde, J. Bernlef, Muriel Spark, and Gerrit Krol. He also made illustrations for newspapers, posters for performances, and wall paintings (we would now call murals).
His studio was a transformed former bakery at Dorpsstraat 26 in Kats. From an Amsterdammer, he became a bon vivant resident of Kats. It was well known that on New Year's Eve in Kats, he would set out a number of tables and chairs outside with oysters and other delicacies and then serve a very good wine or champagne. One had to live, didn't one, and therefore one had to enjoy oneself.
