A beautiful and characteristic maritime artwork by the renowned Dutch/Belgian artist Théo Idserda (1915–1992). Idserda was known for his atmospheric, impressionistic, and misty depictions of the Flemish coast and harbor channels (such as Bruges and Nieuwpoort) in the post-war period. This specific work shows an atmospheric and layered scene of historic sailboats on calm water, executed in his recognizable, somewhat monochrome style and mixed media (charcoal/chalk/oil pastel on paper). Due to the monochrome palette, the work has a beautifully deep, misty, and melancholic appearance.
