Tjeerd Landman is a Frisian landscape painter. Landman paints ordinary everyday things, but it is precisely the way he gives form to his imagination that gives the viewer a sense of serenity. The painter takes the viewer to another reality. Landscapes and seascapes radiate tranquility in his work. No storms and wild waves, but restraint and, above all, a suspenseful anticipation of something yet to come, a restrained silence and peace. He paints moments, not movement. In his landscapes, only two seasons are actually featured: spring and autumn. Spring with all its exuberance and autumn captured in melancholy. When viewing the work of this visual artist, one cannot escape the thought that you are touched by the light; the light that lends the objects intimacy, warmth, and a sense of security. This is strongly expressed in his portraits. He says about this himself: “I have a thing for the late sunlight. In the light of the evening sun, so many colors have already faded. I make use of light and dark, and I also like to use contrasts.” The works show a distinct personal style.
