The versatile Nijmegen artist Antoon Heymans created the MH17 monument in Eindhoven at the age of 92. This painting is much older; I suspect it dates from the 1940s or 1950s. It is painted on softboard, giving it a distinctive natural texture. It makes the work lively, almost tangible. Unmistakably influenced by the Hague School.
Simply but effectively framed.
