This painting depicts Château Neercanne (Neercanne Castle), situated in the Jeker Valley south of Maastricht, close to the border with Belgium. The artwork shows the characteristic terraced castle with its distinctive towers and walls. In the foreground, an idyllic, romanticized setting is depicted featuring a watermill (a representation of the nearby Neercannermolen or Agimont Mill on the Jeker) and Limburg half-timbered houses or farmhouses.
