Klaassen worked for many years in Amsterdam (circa 1978–2011) and spends a large part of each year in the South of France, creating a clear distinction between his Mediterranean and Dutch work. His oeuvre is characterized by a search for harmony and balance in abstract forms, color, and line, with a strong focus on screen printing techniques, which he largely printed and refined himself.
He has exhibited extensively in galleries in Amsterdam and Groningen, and his work has also been shown in London, New York, and Taiwan. His work is held in private collections, and he has established a permanent place in the Dutch graphic art scene.
