Wim van der Meij - beautifully detailed etching "inland vessel" - small edition - signed

• Wim van der Meij (born 1949) discovered etching in 1977 at Expressie 70 in Alphen aan den Rijn. In 1983 he graduated from the Royal Academy in The Hague.

He has been a professional etcher since 1986. In 1988, he moved from the west to a house in the center of Zutphen.
He draws his inspiration from the varied landscape of the Netherlands with its rivers and cities, its trees and ships.
He has exhibited his work both domestically and internationally, and his work is included in numerous collections. He also sells his work at art markets, such as the weekly Sunday market on the Spui in Amsterdam.

Following the retrospective exhibition at the Stedelijk Museum in Zutphen in 2009, Wim van der Beek wrote in the Stentor:
It doesn't take much to conclude that Van der Meij can hold his own with the masters of contemporary etching. Refinement, refinement, an eye for detail, and the ability to add value to concrete observations are the most striking qualities of his etching. He isolates details, crops landscape elements or depicts them halfway, zooms in on specific idiosyncrasies, plays with perspective and foreground and background, or creates unique combinations of different states, printing runs, or image fragments. The quality of his etching can be seen, among other things, in his ability to suggest that countless shades of gray exist between black and white, effortlessly replacing the entire color spectrum.
